BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Two people are behind bars facing burglary charges. Police didn't have much to go on until they brought in their K-9 unit.

The officers on scene blocked off the area around where they knew the alleged burglars were and let the dogs do the rest.

"Probably wouldn't have come out to a successful outcome had we not had the K-9," said Josh Stewart, an officer with the Poplar Bluff Police Department. "It seemed to be right on track. He led us around several houses, several cars, back on the road and then he would track on driveways."

"You can kind of compare it to when you walk into McDonald's you smell the burgers and fries," said Corporal Randle Huddleston, with the Butler County Sheriff's Department. "These dogs smell the ketchup, the mustard, the sesame seeds and everything like that. They are a whole lot more enhanced."

Law enforcement with both the city and county credit these dogs with solving and aiding in investigations. The dogs were actually trained and bought with donations from the people of Butler County.
