Hundreds of bills still await governor's signature

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn still has nearly 400 pieces of legislation to sign, veto or change - all before the end of the month.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register says Illinois lawmakers passed nearly 600 bills during the spring session.

Some of the still-unsigned measures are for small changes to state law. Others have a higher profile.

Bills still awaiting the governor's signature include a provision banning minors from using indoor tanning salons. Another one sets a $75 fine for anyone who's caught driving a car without a hands-free device for their cellphone. A third major unsigned bill raises the speed limit on Illinois interstates from 65 mph to 75 mph.

Quinn has been signing measures since the end of the session.
