Man dies after shot in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

A man has died after he was shot in Carbondale Wednesday night and a Murphysboro man faces charges.

Donathan Brown, 33, died Friday night, according to Carbondale Police.

Ronald E. Sanders Jr., 23, of Murphysboro is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Jackson County States Attorney Michael Carr filed an amended charge against Ronald Sanders, 23 in connection with the shooting.

The amended charge include not in position of a FOID card while discharging a firearm.

Carr says several shell casings were found on location of the shooting.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers responded to a shots fired call on the 400 block of E. Jackson Street around 9 o'clock Wednesday night. When officers arrived they found a gunshot victim.

The Jackson County Ambulance service transported the victim to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale initially for treatment of a life threatening injury. The victim was then transferred to a St. Louis area hospital, and was listed in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon.

The exact nature of the events, before and after the shooting, is under investigation.

Sanders was taken to the Williamson County Jail.

Pastor Burke Cawthon with Faith Temple Church says around 200 people attended a vigil in Brown's memory Sunday night.

No word on funeral arrangements.
