Possible buyout of Heartland hospital

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

There could be some changes to a Heartland hospital, but administrators said patients won’t necessarily see the effect.

Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center CEO Charles Stewart said Community Health Systems Inc. will purchase Health Management Associates Inc. HMA currently owns Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Stewart said the boards of both companies will still need to agree before the acquisition can move forward.

He said they anticipate that to happen before the end of first quarter next year, which will be around March 2014.

Stewart said he thinks it would be a positive move, and help continue stability of the medical center.

"At the local level we don't see that there would be any changes, it certainly won't affect our ability to provide care, and continue to serve the communities here in Southeast Missouri, if anything we just feel like it would make us a stronger company,” said Stewart.
