MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A Mississippi County man and woman face charges after a theft complaint led to drug charges.

Sheriff Keith Moore says the investigation began July 28 when deputies began to investigate a theft complaint.

A retiree told officers that $3,000 had been stolen from his home overnight.

Deputies learned that the victim’s teenage granddaughter and an acquaintance, Brenda Gail Lloyd, had recently visited the residence.

Brenda Lloyd reportedly left with Anthony Matthews, Sr. in a vehicle which was later found at the Fred’s store parking lot.

Deputies detained Anthony Matthews and Brenda Lloyd as they left the store.

Investigators say Lloyd helped deputies find what remained of the stolen money, which she had hidden inside the store.

As they waited outside, Anthony Matthews granted deputies consent to search a motel room he and Brenda Lloyd had rented at Grace Inn.

During a search of that motel room, law enforcement say they found marijuana, methamphetamine and various items of drug paraphernalia from the motel room.

Brenda Gail Lloyd was charged with felony theft/stealing, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Her bond was set at $ 50,000.
