Court rules against recount in Herrin mayor election

HERRIN, IL (KFVS) -

In court on Thursday, a judge ruled that there was not adequate evidence to rule for a complete recount of ballots for the office of mayor for Herrin’s April 9, 2013 election.

After an extremely close race for mayor, election officials declared incumbent Vic Ritter the winner back in May.

His opponent, Steve Frattini had asked for a recount after only three votes separated the two men when the votes were tallied.

“Although I may not have won the election to serve as Mayor, I believe that my campaign platform did win and has advanced the city into a more proactive posture in dealing with various issues," said Frattini.

Both candidates had said before they would ask for a recount with the race being so close.
