CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

A Carbondale church is helping hundreds of kids get the supplies they need for going back to school.

Hopewell Missionary Baptist church has collected enough supplies for over 400 kids whose families might otherwise not be able to afford school supplies.

Since January, the church has been collecting donations.

Parents signed their kids up Tuesday to come in and pick up their own supplies.

Organizers say it's just another way to make going back to school fun for every child.

"It puts a smile on the child's face to know that I am going back to school, I got the coolest backpack I got the nicest supplies and to let them know that somebody else cares before me besides just my family," said Christopher Swims, the pastor for the Church.

"The money that we would of spent on backpacks and school supplies, I won't have to worry about because we will be receiving that stuff from the church," said parent Lydia Butler.

The church will host its annual ‘Back to School Bash' August 3.

The location for the back to school bash has changed to Carbondale Community High School.
