Cape Girardeau Police Dept. warns of suspicious phone calls

Posted: Updated:

The Cape Girardeau Police Department warns residents of suspicious phone calls.

Someone has been calling people identifying himself as a representative of Medicare. The person then states that he needs the person’s social security number and bank account to verify account information.

It has been reported that the subject will hang up when he is questioned about the nature of the call or if it is asked to speak to someone else.

The police department wants to remind everyone to be diligent and cautious when giving personal information over the phone. Make sure you know who you are talking to and make every attempt to verify that information.
