MURPHSYBORO, IL (KFVS) -

A ransom drop lead to a drug bust in Murphysboro Saturday morning.

According to the Murphysboro police chief, they got a call from the woman's family saying she was being held for ransom. That's when police began working with Charles Guyton to make an exchange along North 17th Street in Murphysboro, less than 5 miles from where he lives.

In broad daylight, the police chief said Guyton tried to get away in his neighborhood, but he was arrested after a short pursuit by police. Later on, police say they found drugs in the area.

Neighbors say Guyton tried to stash the drugs in some of their outdoor grills and toolboxes before being arrested.

Now, 43-year-old Charles Guyton of Murphysboro faces charges of unlawful restraint and manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance. He is in the Jackson County Jail

Police say the woman was no random person, that Guyton knew her. They say she was not hurt in the incident.
