Bill signed by Nixon to affect those filing for sheriff in Mo.

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KFVS) -

A House bill signed by the governor requires anyone filing for sheriff in Missouri to have a valid peace officer license at the time of filing.

Senate Bill 42 was signed by Gov. Jay Nixon on July 12 and goes into effect on Aug. 28, 2013.

The provisions do not apply to the City of St. Louis under this act.

Other parts of the bill modify provisions relating to county sheriffs, school protection officers, and create procedures and policies for unpaid debts to county jails.
