Power outage on Southeast campus cancels some classes

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A power outage on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau is canceling some classes and delaying office openings Wednesday morning.

Ann Hayes with Southeast Missouri State University says the outage was caused by an issue with a transformer and has disrupted power this morning to the following buildings: Art, Serena, Carnahan, Crisp, Cheney, GS1 and Parker.

She says facilities management and an electrical contractor were installing a temporary transformer to supply power to these buildings.

According to Hayes, power has been restored to all central campus buildings including Brant Hall.

She says Brandt Hall will remain closed through the rest of the day, and all classes in Brandt are canceled for July 24.

Hayes says Brandt will return to normal operations beginning at 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Summer classes in buildings affected by the outage will be back in session and employees working in these locations should report to work at 1 p.m. Wednesday

Summer classes in these buildings beginning at 8 and 9 a.m. were canceled.
