CAIRO, IL (KFVS) -

On Monday, July 29 workers will start making a few repairs like patching and replacing joints on the Ohio River Bridge between Cairo and Wickliffe.

Because of this, trucks buses, motor homes and vehicles pulling trailers can’t use the bridge for more than two months. However, the bridge will not be closed.

“We could have closed the bridge completely, but that would have only shortened the amount of time it was closed like maybe a week,” said Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Department. “And then when we started talking to some of the area groups and organizations and businesses, they were concerned about people that may live on one side of the river and work on the other side. So, at least by maintaining some passenger vehicle traffic, those people will still be able to get to and from work.”

The repairs to the bridge are expected to last until September.
