JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

Jackson Homecomers is underway. There is plenty of food, games, entertainment, and carnival rides.

After recent tragic accidents on roller coasters at amusement parks, parents are extra concerned about the safety of the rides.

“As a parent it does scare me,” Michelle Burgess said. “You hear about the incidents you know in Texas and things do happen.”

However, Joe Sutton with Fountain City Amusements assured parents the rides are safe. He said workers run safety checks every day on every ride.

“There is not a ride out here that I wouldn’t put my child or grandchild on,” Sutton said.

Parents say they will still be cautious at Homecomers this year when it comes to their children’s safety on rides.

“I trust people but it’s my kids,” Burgess said. “It’s my precious cargo, so I’m always going to make sure they’re safe myself and if I have a weird feeling, I won’t put them on the ride.”

Another mother said she always checks to make sure her children are strapped into the ride.

“I just watch to make sure that they get buckled in and fastened,” Emily Cowell said.

Sutton also said the rides are all inspected by the states of Missouri and Illinois.

Jackson Homecomers is going on all week until Saturday, July 27.
