MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) -

A Murphysboro man and woman were arrested after two churches were broken into over the weekend.

Police were called to the First Baptist Church at 401 N. 15th Street in Murphysboro at 8:14 p.m. on July 20. Someone had forcibly entered the church.

Police were called to the United Methodist Church at 1500 Pine Street in Murphysboro at 10:32 a.m. on July 21. Someone had forcibly entered the church and took property.

Officers were called back to the United Methodist Church on July 22. The church had been forcibly entered again and more property had been taken.

Officers arrested James Michael Burke, 24, of Murphysboro. He is charged with three counts of burglary to a place of worship. He is on parole for retail theft, according to the Murphysboro Police Department.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday Crystal A. Taylor, 24, was arrested after an extensive investigation and church property was recovered. She was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
