MAKANDA, IL (KFVS) -

This week, several kids are camping in Makanda at "Camp Hope."

It's a getaway of sorts to help kids impacted by multiple sclerosis.

These kids don't actually have the disease. Instead, they spend much of their time caring for friends or loved ones who have it.

"Some of them have parents with a wheelchair, other loved ones who can't walk well, or maybe losing their vision," said Andrea Gilbert, a camp counselor. "So they take on a lot more chores and tasks around the house than the average kid. So it's good or them to get out and be a normal kid for once."

Kids in the camp range in age from 8 to 15.
