Last week we told you about new procedures in place to help 911 dispatchers help expecting mothers. We also told you that Stoddard County Ambulance District had not put those techniques to use. Well, that all changed recently. Todd Tumminia visited with a family and their newest member, who arrived with the help of EMS and the dispatchers.

An old disease that many health professionals thought had been eliminated is back on the rise and threatening people. Now, kids in Illinois are going to have to get the shot to prevent whooping cough before they go back to school. You can watch tonight on Heartland News at 9 and 10 when Arnold Wyrick will bring you more on the new requirement.

Southbound I-55 was shut down this evening after a deadly semi crash near the 98 mile marker. Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton said one person has died. You can click here for more.

Just outside the Heartland, the U.S. Army says a Fort Campbell-based soldier has died in Afghanistan after being wounded when a rocket propelled grenade struck his vehicle. They say Staff Sgt. Sonny C. Zimmerman, 25, died July 16, in Mushaka, Afghanistan.

Attorney General Lisa Madigan says her office is distributing $70 million to help Illinois communities hardest hit by the national foreclosure crisis. Madigan spoke at a news conference today in Chicago.
