Chris Carpenter completes Rehab assignment for Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MO (KFVS) -

Injured St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter completed another step last night in his effort to return to the mound for the big league club.

Carpenter, who is trying to work his way back from nerve issues in his shoulder started for the Springfield Cardinals in Double-A against the Arkansas Travelers.

Carpenter pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up 6 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks and he struck out 5.

Carpenter threw 54 pitches and left to a standing ovation from the fans in Springfield.

Arkansas won the game 5-3.
