Elkville board member suggests closing city's police department

ELKVILLE, IL (KFVS) -

In an attempt to balance the village's budget-an Elkville board member has suggested closing the city's police department.

According to the Mayor Lance Bedar, the idea involves laying off the two remaining employees and selling the equipment.

He says the Jackson County Sheriff's Office covers calls in Elkville during off duty hours.

Bedar says it would save the village $90,000 dollars a year.

The issue will be brought up at the next board meeting.
