Fire crews put out a fire on the roof of a building on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

Ann Hayes, director of the news bureau at Southeast Missouri State University, says the fire started on the roof of Dempster Hall.

No one was injured.

Hayes says the fire department was on scene within 15 minutes of the call that went out at 1:35 p.m.

The fire was contained to the roof. It did not reach the interior of the building.

There were people in the building who evacuated. A student who was registering for classes in Dempster Hall heard the fire alarm go off and ran out of the building.

Dempster Hall is closed.

According to Southeast's website, Dempster Hall was completed in 1996 and is a $15.8 million building. It was designed to allow students to experience the "finest in technological instruction and to receive programs and instruction from around the world via satellite technology."
