Carbondale church burglarized, 2 juveniles in custody

Two juveniles are in custody following a church burglary in Carbondale Saturday night.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, they got a call shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday about a burglary in progress at The Vine Church on 1445 S. Wall Street.

A witness to the incident told police two males were seen breaking out a church window to get inside.

Officers say the two males left the scene on foot and officers set up a parameter and a K9 unit responded.

The Carbondale Police Department K9 tracked the two juveniles and found them in a nearby wooded area.

The juveniles matched the description by the witness and were taken into custody. Burglary charges are pending.

The Jackson Co. Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Carbondale Police Department and the Southern Illinois University Police Department.
