Man gets 50 years for sexual assault, burglary

BLOOMFIELD, MO (KFVS) -

A man has been sentenced for his role in a sexual assault and burglary.

Judge Benjamin Lewis sentenced Moses Grayson, Jr. on Thursday to 50 years in prison for the charges.

According to Stoddard Co. Prosecuting Attorney Russ Oliver, on May 30, 2013, a jury found Moses Grayson, Jr. guilty of forcible sodomy and first degree burglary for a sexual assault that occurred in Stoddard County on May 21, 2011.

Because of prior felony convictions the Judge determined the sentence.

Judge Lewis gave the defendant  the maximum sentence of 30 years on the forcible sodomy charge, and 20 years for the burglary charge.

The judge also ordered that the sentences would be served back to back.

"We are very pleased with the outcome of the trial and the resulting sentence," said Oliver. "The defendant will have to serve 85% of the 30 year sentence for forcible sodomy before he will even be eligible to start serving the 20 years on the burglary charge. Considering that the Defendant is 36-years-old, by my calculations he will be more than 71-years-old before he is even eligible for parole. Mr. Grayson has two prior victims that he sexually assaulted and this case is his third sexual assault victim. Our community is safer due to the results of this trial.”
