Firefighter injured, 2 charged in Lyon County fire

EDDYVILLE, KY (KFVS) -

One firefighter was injured and two juveniles have been charged with arson following a Lyon County house fire.

According to Kentucky State Police, a fire was reported at an abandoned house on Chestnut Street in Eddyville on Wednesday around 1 p.m.

Eddyville and Kuttawa fire departments both responded to the scene.

While fighting the blaze, a burning tree branch fell on firefighter Randy Reed and hit him in the head.

Reed was taken to Caldwell County Hospital and was later taken to Deaconess Hospital with a neck injury and burns to the left side of his body.

After an investigation, two juveniles who were found at the scene were arrested for their involvement in the fire.

The two were later released to their parents' custody.

One of the juveniles was charged with 1st degree arson and the second juvenile was charged with complicity to arson, 1st degree.

The fire is currently under investigation by Trooper First Class Lewie Dodd, Fire Marshal Bill Compton and Arson Investigator Rick Godsey.
