Mixed reviews on Illinois' Concealed Carry

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Illinois' new concealed carry law isn't just affecting gun owners, but the businesses they'll be carried in to.

Earlier this week, Governor Quinn pleaded with lawmakers to accept his veto that would ban firearms where alcohol is served.

But, both the House and Senate easily overrode the veto, and in about six months people will be able to carry handguns.

Some say it's about time, other restaurants are not so keen on the idea.

"No it doesn't really worry me that people may be packing a gun or have one or know that they have one. I don't think it's going to have an impact one way or the other," says Mike Mills, owner of 17th Street Bar and Grill.

"I do not want to have to check a gun, I don't think it is necessary. What is the purpose that the world is so bad that we have to carry guns," says Gwen Hunt owner of PK's Bar in Carbondale.

Under the new law, concealed weapons will still be banned in areas like schools, parks and government buildings.

It's expected that over 300,000 permit applications will be sent in the first year alone.
