Cape Girardeau car repair shop uses solar panels to keep cool

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The summer heat is pretty intense. A Cape Girardeau car repair shop has decided to use the sun's energy to cool the business.

Roger Austin with Advanced Automotive in cape Girardeau recently installed solar panels.

After those were in place, Austin installed central air conditioning in the shop.

He says he's already seen a big improvement in employee productivity.

"If we can keep the environment, the controlled environment, keep it around 75 to 76 degrees which is where we keep the thermostat at, it makes it not so horrible to work on a vehicle," Roger Austin said. "They cool off faster, the can work on them faster, and plus when the employee gets off at the end of the day, you're not drained from the heat all day."

Austin says the biggest improvement has actually been in employee attitude. Now that they're working in comfortable temperatures, he says they're a lot more upbeat.
