Three Southern Illinois Miners voted in for All-Star Game

MARION, IL (KFVS) -

Three Southern Illinois Miners baseball players have been voted to the 2013 Frontier League All-Star Game as members of the East Squad.

First Baseman and outfielder Gerardo Avila, third baseman Carlos Mendez and starting pitcher Preston Vancil all have been voted in.

Avila, who will be a reserve in the All-Star game is batting .329 this season, Mendez will also be a reserve and is hitting .324 and leads the league with 56 hits and pitcher Preston Vancil is 5-1 on the season with a 1.04 earned run average.

The West All-Star squad is being managed by former SEMO standout and now Gateway Grizzlies Manager Phil Warren.

The Frontier League All-Star game will take place Wednesday July 17 at the home of the Washington Wild Things.
