Law in honor of Cape Girardeau girl to go into effect

Posted: Updated:
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

A law written in honor of a Cape Girardeau girl officially goes into effect next month.

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon recently signed Sahara's Law. It allows Missouri taxpayers to donate at least a dollar of their state income tax refund to pediatric cancer research.

Shannon and Amy Aldridge have been pushing for the statute since their 13-year-old daughter Sahara died of brain cancer in 2007.

It officially takes effect August 28.
