Holiday traffic backups at I-24 work zones in Kentucky

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) -

There are reports of significant traffic backups Sunday in work zones along Interstate 24 through Kentucky due to heavy Independence Holiday traffic volume.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, traffic is moving at less than 25 miles per hour at some points in both work zones.

KYTC says drivers should consider avoiding these work zones, particularly during the heavy holiday travel period that runs until about 7 p.m., this evening.

Drivers can avoid the work zone along I-24 between the 10 mile marker and 16 mile marker by choosing to self-detour via US 62 through Paducah from Exit 7 to Exit 16.

Drivers can avoid the work zone along I-24 between the 38 and 45 mile marker in Lyon County by choosing to self-detour via US 62 and KY 93 between Exit 27 and Exit 45.
