POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KAIT) - A Poplar Bluff school teacher is not only a "star of the classroom" she will soon be a star on the pitching mound.

Kristy Weaver teaches music at the 5th and 6th Grade Center.  Recently she was selected by the Missouri Lottery as a "Stars of the Classroom" winner for demonstrating excellence in the classroom.

As a winner, Weaver will throw out the ceremonial pitch during the St. Louis Cardinals game on Saturday, July 6, at Busch Stadium.

A former softball player in high school, Weaver said she has been practicing for the big pitch with her sister Janna, who is also a teacher at the 5th & 6th Grade Center.

Weaver's father, Tom, died last year in a car crash. Kristy says she's sure he will be an "angel in the outfield" when she stands on the pitching mound.
