Teen rescued after spending 13 hours in ravine

HEYWORTH, Ill. (AP) - Emergency crews have rescued a 17-year-old central Illinois girl who apparently tripped and fell into a ravine after watching a fireworks show.

McLean County Emergency Management Agency Director Curt Hawk says 17-year-old Brooke Bartelmay was found Friday afternoon north of a park in Heyworth. Hawk says the girl watched the village fireworks show on Thursday night and then took a walk along trails. The Pantagraph in Bloomington reports that authorities believe she became disoriented and fell into a ravine.

The teen was reported missing about 1 a.m. on Friday. About 100 law enforcement searched for her until she was found about 13 hours later.

Police say the girl was responsive and had no obvious injuries. However she was taken to a hospital for observation.
