Good evening,

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has signed legislation that reinstates local taxes on vehicles bought from out-of-state dealers or through person-to-person sales. Kadee Brosseau will have more on this story, tonight on Heartland News at 9 and 10.

Investigators in Williamson County say they are struggling to keep up with the rising number of car thefts. Allison Twaits talked to the sheriff today. You can watch Heartland News at 9 and 10 for more.

McCracken County Sheriff's detectives found $180,000 worth of crystal meth hidden inside the engine of a Dodge Durango. One man is in custody on $1.05 million bond and detectives say more arrests are expected.

Police are searching for a man accused of shooting another man and his son after an argument over fireworks. They are looking for Mark S. Mowery and say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Outside the Heartland, officials at San Francisco International Airport hired a herd of part-time employees last month to toil on the west side of the property and engage in an unusual, but environmentally friendly, form of fire prevention. For two weeks in June, Mr. Fuzzy, Cookie, Mable, Alice and nearly 400 other goats chomped on brush in a remote corner of the airport.

As many as 10,000 Fourth of July revelers were just settling into their seats for the fireworks show at a Simi Valley park in California when a bright plume of red and white bursts spread across the ground, injuring more than 30 people and sending others fleeing for safety. Police in the city northwest of Los Angeles were still investigating what caused the explosion.

In national news, U.S. employees are sending a message of confidence in the economy by hiring more workers, raising pay and making the job market appear strong enough for the Federal Reserve to slow its bond purchases as early as September. You can click here for more.
