Nixon signs measure on Mo. judicial circuits

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has signed legislation that would allow judges to periodically change the boundaries of the state's trial court circuits.

The measure signed Wednesday would let the Judicial Conference of Missouri to submit a plan every 20 years starting in 2020. The new map would eventually go into effect unless lawmakers approve their own realignment proposal.

The bill also allows expansion of special courts for cases involving current and former military personnel with mental health or substance abuse issues. Missouri already has a small number of what are known as veterans treatment courts.

Courts legislation is HB374
