NEW MADRID, MO (KFVS) -

Riley Sloan was just 10 weeks old when he was a victim of child abuse.

Doctors told his mother that they didn't think Riley would make it because of his injuries. He proved those doctors wrong and hasn't stopped fighting since.

"He's my miracle baby," Aimee Walls, his mother, said. "He's just something else."

Riley Sloan is a pretty simple guy. He likes school, watching movies and playing outside. Hobbies that most 10-year-old have, but not many have been through what Riley has.

"When he was 10 weeks old, his biological father shook him and threw him against a wall," Walls said.

That lead to the news no mother wants to hear.

"They told us that he probably wouldn't live and if he did he would be a vegetable," she said.

But Riley's mom knew something the doctors didn't, Riley wasn't going to give up that easily.

"Of course, they were very wrong," Walls said. "He is so far from that and it's amazing."

Riley is in the third grade now and not just impressing his family, he is making an impression on people in his community.

"He is my New Madrid celebrity," Lisa Taber, a family friend, said.

Riley's success lead him to another bump in the road. He was diagnosed with crouch syndrome, something that would eventually stop him from walking.

But, he and his family know, Riley will face this the same way as before.

"No doubt he will overcome this and come out just fine," Walls said.

Riley will undergo a very intense surgery that will actually break some of his bones so they can be reset properly.

The fundraising efforts are already underway to help Riley and his family.
