CAMPBELL, MO (KFVS) -

Should people in Campbell be allowed to live in one-room cabins or sheds inside the city limits?

That's the issue city leaders debated at a meeting Monday.

This certainly has people in Campbell divided. It is a city of 2,000 people. Some support the non-traditional homes because not everyone can afford to buy one. Others say it will become an eye sore in town and decrease their property value.

City leaders heard from both sides in what they are calling a special town hall meeting Monday.

"Well I had an emergency move and I didn't know what else to do," said Melinda Schwanke. "Went and found me a place cause there was nothing to rent. And I couldn't afford to buy or pay for a bank loan. And so I went and got this building here. I love it. I call it my cabin."

Schwanke is a resident in one of the cabins and says she has electric but no water or sewage. She has to use a friend's house for those necessities.

"That's not quality housing," Buddy Hill, who is against the non-traditional homes, said. "I don't care what your income is.. It's unfortunate but I feel like it brings the value of my property down."

City leaders say they plan to further discuss the issue at the next city council meeting.
