HICKORY, KY (KFVS) -

Kentucky State Police are now asking for the public's help in connection to a Tennessee man's death investigation.

Police say it was believed the body found in Kentucky Lake Sunday morning was that of a person reported missing from Tennessee.

The victim then was identified as Daniel Couger, 72, from Big Sandy, Tenn.

They say that due to the nature of the incident, Fish and Wildlife asked Kentucky State Police (KSP) conduct a death investigation.

KSP said preliminary autopsy results show that the victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the head.

According to KSP, Couger launched his boat in Sulpher Creek, Tenn. on Friday June 28 at around 3:30 p.m.

Couger's empty boat was discovered on Saturday June 29 around noon on Kentucky Lake, near Sugar Creek.

His body was found Sunday near Sugar Creek.

If anyone had seen or come into contact with Couger between 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 28 and noon Saturday, June 29, contact Kentucky State Police Detective Steve Silfies at (270) 856-3721 or toll-free in Kentucky, at 1-800-222-5555. Callers can remain anonymous.
