Man drives into I-24 construction zone, two injured

Posted: Updated:

Two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash Saturday evening in McCracken County, Kentucky.

Shortly before 10 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 10.5 mm on I-24 in the westbound lanes.

Deputies say three vehicles were involved in the collision. Richard Griffen of Dunwoody, Georgia drove into a construction area.

Griffen told officers that upon realizing that he had done this he braked and drove back into the slow lane in front of a car driven of Deana Jackson of Mayfield.

Jackson told officers she braked and swerved onto the shoulder in an attempt to avoid striking Griffen's vehicle, but was unable to avoid his car.

Jackson's car was struck in the rear by a car driven by Deborah Jones of Paducah.

Mercy Regional EMS transported Jones and Jackson to local hospitals for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic was disturbed for about 45 minutes for investigation, cleanup of the scene and realignment of the traffic cones in the transition zone from the fast lane to the slow lane.

Drivers are urged to use extra caution while traveling through the construction zone on I-24.
