MALDEN, MO (KFVS) -

Both the Malden High School Senior Beta Club and Malden Junior High Junior Beta Club competed in the National Beta Club Convention recently in Mobile, Alabama.

According to Malden Schools Superintendent Kenneth W. Cook, both clubs ran an officer for national president and National Beta Club history was made when both clubs were successful.

Cook says this is the first time that both national presidents were from one town and one school and this was the first time that a brother and sister were both national presidents.

Darren Green was elected national president of the Senior Beta Club. His sister, Samantha, was national president in 2008.

Jackson Wilson was elected national president of the Junior Beta Club.

Both will serve until the next national convention in Richmond, Virginia next June.

Cook says to compete at the national level, the students must have been elected to the same position at the state level.

In addition to the elections, Malden Senior Beta was awarded 3rd place in the Group Talent Division, 1st place in the Campaign Skit division; Parker McCormick was awarded 2nd place in Creative Writing and Malden Senior Beta won the attendance award.

In Junior Beta, Jackson Wilson was awarded 3rd place in the Campaign Speech Division and 4th place in the Campaign Skit Division.

Over 4,000 students from 14 states were represented at the two conventions.
