Quinn lauds passage of immigration reform

Posted: Updated:

CHICAGO (AP) - Gov. Pat Quinn says he's happy that both of Illinois' senators voted for the immigration reform bill that passed in Washington.

Quinn commended U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk on Thursday.

The Senate passed the historic immigration legislation, which offers the hope of American citizenship to millions, while promising a military-style surge to secure the border.

The measure now goes to the U.S. House.

Quinn called Illinois an "immigrant-friendly" state.

He says reform is the right thing to do but it will also stimulate the state economy. He says immigration will create jobs and generate money in taxes.
