SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

Otto Porter was selected third by the Washington Wizards in Thursday's NBA draft.

It's hard to believe that just three years ago Otto Porter was playing high school basketball.

Former teammate Blake Probst remembers practicing with Porter.

"It's just incredible, just to know that guy I was at practice doing work with everyday is now playing in the NBA for the Washington Wizards," Probst said.

Scott County Central fans, and many basketball fans in the Heartland in general, are excited to see one of their own drafted.

"I am so, so, so happy," said Andrea Porter, Otto Porter's cousin. "As soon as they said that I text him instantly, 'why congratulations. I can't wait to talk to you.'"

Porter had a stellar high school career at Scott County Central that continued at Georgetown.

Tarington Marks, a fan of Porter's, believes Porter gives local kids something to look up to.

"That's not something you see everyday from here, so I think that's a blessing, one; and two, that's something for kids to look up to and say, 'you know what, I got something better to look to. A life than just where we at now," Marks said.

This past season, Porter rushed on to the national scene and caught the eye of NBA scouts by averaging more than 16 points and seven rebounds a game.

He won Big East Player of the Year. Since his season ended in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, Porter has been considered a future lottery pick, which is one of the top 14 prospects for this year's NBA draft.

Most draft experts have Porter in the top five and most have him going to the Washington Wizards with the third pick.
