Porter's draft dream awaits

(KFVS) -

Otto Porter Jr. is less than 24 hours from hearing his name called in one of the NBA draft's first picks.

Southeast Missouri's native son has been a star everywhere he's played. An All-Stater for Scott County Central; Big East Player of the Year at Georgetown.

Now the question is: what team will Otto shine for in the NBA? Porter seems like a consensus a top 5 pick.

Will he go to the wizards at number 3?

Or even the Cavaliers first overall?

Either way, the entire process leading up to draft day is something Porter says he will never forget.

"It's been unbelievable just getting ready for this process, getting ready for tomorrow," he said. "It's been unbelievable. I've enjoyed every bit."

Porter will be the first player from southeast Missouri to get drafted in the NBA since Poplar Bluff's Tyler Hansbrough was selected 13th overall in 2009.

Down in Scott County, Porter's success has the whole town talking, and many aspiring to follow in his footsteps.

"He gives them something to aspire to, something to look up to even if they don't make it to the NBA you know to know they can still be something coming from this small area," said Frank Staple, Scott County Central's Head Basketball coach and former assistant coach for Otto. "He talks to a lot of them still they know him, and it gives them a sense of pride and they can do something big too."
