BENTON, IL (KFVS) -

The police in Franklin County are asking for your help tracking down who is stealing air conditioning units from outside churches and businesses these past few weeks.

The most recent thefts happened late Sunday night into early Monday morning.

Workers at the Sweetwater Bar & Grill in Benton came in and found out they didn't have any air inside the building.

Both of the businesses units were stolen right off the back of the building.

"Well it affected us pretty bad. We usually have a pretty good day crowd," said Carl Skinon. "It was too hot for anyone to come around for the past two days. We have a kitchen and we couldn't use it because it was too hot. People aren't going to come in and eat or drink when it's so hot inside."

Police say the thieves also stole three air conditioner units from the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church the same night.

"Well it's difficult. But we do have insurance and that's going to cost us five hundred dollars," said Pastor Bill Hottensen. "So it's going to cos us that, plus we're going to have to put up a couple of fences. That's another two-three hundred dollars. But we're going to get through it. And a fellow is supposed to be out on Friday to put in the new units. So maybe we'll be cool on Sunday."

Police say the thieves are stealing the entire units and selling the copper and other metal parts of the air conditioners for scrap metal.

If you have any information about these crimes, please call the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
