CAIRO, IL (KFVS) -

Three years ago, sixth graders in Cairo decided they wanted to help beautify their city with a mural project.

The class learned as much as they could about the history of Cairo, then started on this mural. They’ve recently completed a mural on the local VFW, and now they’re extending the project to the city’s flood wall.

Teacher Janet Rose said the project couldn’t be done without the help of the community.

“Our first mural on the wall was the story of Cairo,” Rose said. “The city council and the Corp of Engineers allowed us to put that on the wall and we’re doing this to create community pride. What Cairo deserves is a river wall landscaped with love that looks just as good as Cape Girardeau or Paducah.”
