Red Cross offers free training for disaster preparation

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

The American Red Cross - Southern Missouri Region is sponsoring a free event offering seminars and courses aimed to educate individuals on how to be prepared to bounce back from disaster.

 “Red Cross Academy Southeast MO 2013" will take place July 10-13 at the Crisp Building on the campus of Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff.

Individuals may chose to attend a single course, one day, or all four days.  Courses included will give participants the opportunity to learn step-by-step actions to prepare communities with free tools and courses.  It will also give individuals a map for preparing their neighborhoods to adapt and recover from a disaster.

Many different types of courses are offered for different areas of interests, including sheltering, psychological first aid, CPR/First Aid, and more. Also, there will be panel discussions regarding such topics as what to do when an active shooter enters an organization best practices for being prepared.

The Academy, in its entirety, is free and open to the public with limited lodging available.  Those interested in attending can refer questions to DisasterTraining.SpringfieldARC.MO@redcross.org or call (866) 206-0256.
