CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

The Carbondale Police Department took time Friday morning to honor fellow officers killed in the line of duty.

The ceremony was dedicated to fallen officers dating back to the 1920's and the most recent casualty in 2004.

Chief of police Jody O'Guinn has been working to get a memorial built outside of the station for some time now.

He says it's an important way for all officers to stay connected.

"I wanted to be able to bring some of that a little bit closer to us so that our officers felt like they were able to participate and honor their fellow comrades as well," said O' Guinn.

It's still unclear on what the memorial will look like.

But O'Guinn says he hopes to have it something in place in the next year.
