CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

A Murphysboro, Illinois man was killed in a crash in Jackson County on Wednesday morning.

It happened shortly before 5:20 a.m. on Chautauqua Road about 1/4 mile east of West Pleasant Hill Road.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says they got a call about people trapped inside a Chevrolet Silverado. When officers arrived on the scene, they found the truck just inside a wooded area on its side.

Investigators say the Silverado was eastbound on Chautauqua Road when the driver, Ryan M. Robbins, 33, of Murphysboro, failed to negotiate a curve before the truck left the road to the right. The truck then crashed into a number of trees.

Robbins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Joseph Z. Hawk, 33, of Carbondale, a passenger in the truck, was extricated from the truck and taken to a local hospital. He was later transferred by helicopter to a St. Louis area hospital.

The crash is under investigation by Jackson County Sheriff's Office crash reconstructionist.

The Jackson County Coroner's Office, Jackson County Ambulance Service and Murphysboro Pomona Somerset Fire Department assisted officers at the scene.

New federal regulations have changed what many kids who attend public schools eat for lunch at school. However, some area private schools don't have to follow those rules and have come up with their own new school lunch program.
