METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) -

A Kentucky man faces charges and members of a state bomb squad are on the scene of Honeywell's Metropolis plant after a report of an explosive device on Friday.

A spokesperson for Honeywell says law enforcement officials on scene at the facility have notified plant management that non-essential personnel can now leave the facility. Essential personnel, including plant management, will remain on site to assist law enforcement personnel with their investigation.

Employees inside the plant had gone to designated locations and a shelter that was in place.

Law enforcement and members of the state's bomb squad are on scene.

As of 4:10 p.m. the bomb squad was still on the property of the Honeywell plant in Metropolis.

The vehicles are located in the parking lot near the exit, away from the plant.

Massac County Sheriff Ted Holder says at 11:30 a.m., security personnel from Honeywell called the sheriff's office saying there was a man at the front gate who they believed may have a bomb in his vehicle.

Thomas Clark, 61, of Beaver Dam Kentucky was arrested for disorderly conduct (making a bomb threat) and held without bond at Massac County Sheriff's Office.

Based on information received from Clark the Sheriff's Office, Massac County deputies received assistance from the following agencies as the investigation continued: Illinois State Police, Illinois Secretary of State Bomb Squad, Metropolis Police and the FBI.

All traffic on highways and rail service was closed within a 1000 feet of the plants entrance.

At around 2 p.m., the bomb squad searched the vehicle and advised nothing was found. The site was cleared for traffic to resume around 3 p.m.

Honeywell has notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Department of Homeland Security and other government agencies per its emergency protocols.
