BENTON, Ill. (AP) - A southern Illinois man has pleaded not guilty to charges that he gunned down a woman outside a card shop in the Franklin County city of Benton.
Thirty-9-year-old Donald Lee of Elkville waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday on two counts of first-degree murder, as well as one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Authorities allege Lee shot 23-year-old Brittany Andrews of Bonnie in the head May 17 outside of a flower and card shop. She died a short time later at a hospital.
Lee was arrested at the scene.
Lee's aunt says her nephew and Andrews had an on-again, off-again relationship.
Lee's past includes a conviction of attempted murder and armed robbery when he was 17.
He's jailed on $2 million bond.
