Three Franklin County churches have been hit by the thieves, two of those churches were hit twice in the past ten days.

Captain Rick Veldman says the thieves are cutting everything connected to the air-conditioning units and taking the entire unit for scrap metal.

The most recent church to be targeted by the thieves was Harmony Freewill Baptist Church on Sunday in rural West Frankfort. Two a/c units were stolen from the church.

Captain Veldman says that late last week they received reports of air-conditioning units being stolen from Creek Nation Pentecostal Church in rural Mulkeytown. And also at Jackson Grove Baptist Church in rural Akin.

Both of the churches have been hit twice in the past ten days.

Police say they believe that more than one person could be involved in the thefts because the units weigh several hundred pounds a piece. And they have collected some tire tracks from a pickup truck at some of the crime scenes.

If you have any information about these thefts at the churches, please call the Franklin County Sheriff's Office at 618-438-4841.
