CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The Cape Girardeau County Coroner confirms there are multiple deaths following gun shots fired in a Cape Girardeau home Thursday morning.

According to Cape Girardeau Police, the call came in around 7:47 for a shooting at 1220 West Cape Rock Drive.

Cape Girardeau County Coroner John Clifton was at the scene Thursday morning. Clifton confirms there are multiple fatalities.

Cape Girardeau police say Mary Joseph, 57, and her son Matthew Joseph, 18, are confirmed to have died from gunshot wounds. George Joseph, 48, was being treated at a local hospital for gunshot wounds.

Clifton says autopsies are scheduled for sometime Friday. Police were back on the scene Friday investigating, as well.

Cape Girardeau police had earlier confirmed at least one fatality.

Cape Girardeau Police Officer Darin Hickey says the search warrant has been obtained for authorities to enter the home. Police are processing the scene.

"About 8 o'clock this morning we received a call there was a person down," said Hickey. "Officers and medical personnel arrived on scene. At this point we are investigating a shooting where we do have multiple victims. We are trying to determine what the actual occurrences were-to what happened. We don't know who all is involved yet, and we are trying to determine that at this point."

Hickey says the scene is controlled. He says there is no threat for residents in the area.

He says lots of evidence still needs to be collected. At least three crime scene investigators with multiple detectives are inside the home.

Hickey says interviews with family members have already taken place. The focus is now on the scene.

According to Hickey, like in any situation, the scene is being treated as a homicide. He says evidence will lead to an answer.

A neighbor in the area says he didn't hear anything Thursday morning, but another neighbor called and told him to look out window. That is when he saw the massive police presence.

The neighbor says the neighborhood is usually a very quiet area.
