Heartland soldiers return home from Afghanistan

The Missouri National Guard will welcome home the 1138th Engineer Company Soldiers Sunday after deployment to Afghanistan.

The unit is headquartered in Farmington, Mo. and had deployed 93 Guardsman to conduct route clearance support and missions in Afghanistan.

The unit's year-long deployment process began in June of 2012 with pre-mobilization training at Camp Clark in Nevada, Mo.

The soldiers continued mobilization training at Fort Bliss, Texas and then headed to Afghanistan.

The company is commanded by Capt. Jason Davis of Wentzville and 1st Sgt. Richard Parks of Salem.

Soldiers will be returning in small groups throughout the day Sunday and a formal community welcome ceremony will honor the unit later this summer.
