Three Rivers College students hold mock disaster training

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

With the tragedies in Boston and West, Texas, still fresh in their minds, nursing and paramedic students from Three Rivers College held a mass casualty training drill this morning in Poplar Bluff.

The drill is designed to simulate what it would be like to respond to a disaster where there are multiple injuries and deaths.

Students set up emergency triage tents, and treated multiple patients during a fake arson fire.

And even though it was just a drill, the college tried to simulate a potentially chaotic situation.

you hold back key elements of what's going to happen with the event so there are surprises so all the participants have to react to an unknown.

In all, more than sixty students took part in the drill along with the Poplar Bluff Police and Fire Departments.
